CORNWALL - A provincial police officer based in SD&G has been charged with assault.
The OPP identified the officer as a 52-year-old man who has worked in the provincial law enforcement service for 16 years, but did not provide a name.
An investigation into the alleged incident in December 2009 began on Feb. 26 by the OPP Professional Standards Bureau.
The officer was off-duty at the time of the incident.
He was arrested and charged with assault, then released on a promise to appear in court under officer undertaking conditions.
The officer is still on duty, but assigned to administrative duties.
He is due back in court on Mar. 23
