Toronto constable charged in alleged restaurant assault

Source: National Post

By Meghan Housley, National Post

A Toronto police officer has been charged with assault after a dispute outside a Don Mills restaurant.

The officer met a man outside a restaurant in the York Mills-Upjohn Road area on Monday, police said in a release today. It is alleged that the off-duty officer then assaulted the man.

Const. Gary Gould, 28, has been with the Toronto Police Service for seven years and is currently with 33 Division. He has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 23 at the Toronto East Courthouse at 1911 Eglinton Ave. East.

Does violence follow this officer, or does he follow the violence?

This man goes looking for violence

This story lacks in detail, and its funny to me how people just jump to their own conclusions without knowing all the facts. This man is actually one of the nicest people. He stands up for what is right, and doesnt make a habit of fighting people for fun. It is unfortunate that rare occurances like this take away from the fact that he is great at his job. Fact is Gary is a great police officer and is innocent until proven guilty...

I wonder why there is no mention that the alleged victim in this case is also a Toronto Police officer?

This story could be written more "black and white" when in fact there is a lot of grey... For the "he follows violence" comments? May want to check your sources and do a little more reading, perhaps than you'll see that he too, was a victim once as well. Also, in the same night he became a victim of violence, he was praised for his work by Toronto Police. Get the full story before your quick to hop on the wagon kids. Side note: re-read the title of this article and look up "alleged"...
Yours truly,
Open your eyes and stop ASSuming.

Gary Gould is known in the Durham area as being an asshole. Working in the bar nightclub industry I have come to know Gary on a first name kinda basis. I've witnessed a dozen fights involving Gary and numerous drunken disturbances. Gary Gould is a punk.

HAS ANYTHING ACTUALLY HAPPENED WITH THIS CASE...? OR WILL IT BE SWEPT UNDER THE RUG LIKE SO MANY OTHER INSTANCES OF CRIMINAL ACT'S COMMITTED BY OUR TRUSTED POLICE OFFICERS?

Funny how this story isn't followed up when all charges have been dismissed and this officer was proven "not guilty". Not as interesting when the service messes up is it? Hoping on the bandwagon is easy... Food for thought, what about all the other wrongly accused cops? Published and never followed up? That seems "unjust". Educating the public would mean, getting the whole story....

Thanking you for your service... said...

Hey mister bouncer? Why don't u put ur ass on the line every day and endure what these guys do, than yap under anonymous? Tisk tisk

What the papers unfortunately do not hear of are in fact the outcomes of these cases unless they're negative. In this instance, the officer charged was backing up another officer on a call as the victim (another officer) neglected to do so. The accused officer (Gould) confronted the neglectful officer who became assaultive towards the accused officer when the accused officer defended himself. As result, the "victim" officer, trying to cover his tracks, made up a story a made false accusations leading to Goulds arrest.
The result; the "victim" officer was found to be a liar, not credible, and self serving, there fore, Gould was found to be innocent in this matter.
The unfortunate part of this story is that Gould suffered arrest and embarrassment for following the core values of the service and also backing up another officer in need of help.
Further more, and more of the question is, what has happened with the lying neglectful officer, proven to be not credible and neglectful in his duties?

Gary Gould will soon face new assault charges. He is a violent man who just happens to be a police officer. He just finished suspension for his past assault charges.

that's a pretty serious accusation, any details to back this up?

Gary Gould was suspended after being charged. After he was aquitted of the criminal charges as well as the internal police act charges, he was reinstated. Obviously those details weren't released to the media. It's unfortunate the amount of negative comments posted regarding hearsay from one sided views that lack substance. I'm assuming that there was a reason he was aquitted of everything disciplinary. Maybe the anonymous hotchots should do their research before they throw a good name in the mud!! :) After all, this officer could save your life one day when you need him.

Const. Gould is a violent psychotic who is the antithesis of an "Officer of the Peace". He assaulted me, an innocent senior, and ruined my life with trumped-up charges. He belongs in jail.

Seriously, you're asking why someone would call out a cop and not give their name- retribution perhaps? Thank you to the bouncer who brought this to our attention. BTW. I'm not one to comment , but. I had to in this instance, as I was nearly run down by a car ( not a police car)rolling through the stopsign at this very intersection. As I yelled and gestured at the driver as he turned the corner ,he pulled over and rolled down the window and asked if I wanted to 'start something' I pointed out that I had the right of way as a pedestrian, he ran the sign, and he nearly ran me down , then the guy flashes his badge!! The arrogance. I've never had any trouble with cops BTW. So stop defending the bad ones, please. All this talk about courage- I'd like to see the good cops start standing up and calling out guys like this- that's real courage. Not gonna happen -thin blue line and all that crap!

No more taxes after HST...I promise!
